Located at the crossroads of the valleys between Chambéry, Albertville and Grenoble, Cœur de Savoie is a territory of life where inhabitants and passing visitors rub shoulders.
It is a natural playground made up of lakes, rivers, forests and valleys punctuated by typical villages but also by vineyards and mountain peaks. Located on the foothills of the three massifs that make up its identity (the Bauges, the Chartreuse and the Belledonne massif), it welcomes young and old, sportsmen and contemplatives, gourmets and epicureans by revealing its splendid panoramas according to the activities it offers. on the Alps.
41 municipalities make up the territory, from the mid-mountain villages of the Vallée des Huiles (Le Pontet, Le Bourget-en-Huile, La Table, Presle, Le Verneil) to the main towns of Montmélian, Valgelon La Rochette, Saint -Pierre d'Albigny and Chamoux-sur-Gelon, located along the Gelon and Isére.
The territory is nonetheless mountainous, with the peak of the Pic du Frêne (2807m) as its highest point. But it is undoubtedly Mont-Granier, Arclusaz, and the Grands Moulins which are the emblematic mountains of the Heart of Savoie.
Arclusaz is the perched syncline par excellence, which illustrates a number of geology works. It results from the folding of a thick limestone layer during the formation of the Alps, nearly 20 million years ago. It culminates at 2041m above the Combe de Savoie.
Les Grands Moulins, a "Giant of Belledonne" 2495m, granite mountain, heralds the entry into the "Alps" as opposed to the Pre-Alps (which includes Bauges, Chartreuse, Vercors...)
Le Granier is known for a tragic event that occurred on November 24, 1248. Part of the mountain collapsed, causing a huge landslide. This collapse gave rise to the "Abymes" landscapes, including Lake Saint-André.
