About us
Karma Ling is a Buddhist institute established within the walls of the former Charterhouse of Saint-Hugon. It now hosts a spiritual center but also many cultural activities. (full presence institute, Darma University, yoga...)
Karma-Ling reopened in May 2018, after the fire that ravaged the Grande Chartreuse in December 2017.

In 1979, inspired by Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche, an eminent Tibetan master, and Lama Denys Rinpoche, his most ancient Western disciple, it rediscovered its vocation as a high spiritual place and took the name of Karma Ling, a place of practice and study of the Buddha's teachings.
In 2000, the entire site was named Domaine d'Avalon. It includes 55 hectares of forest which make it an educational ecosite of which Pierre Rabhi, renowned agrobiologist and humanist is the sponsor.
The visit (about an hour and a half) highlights the historical, cultural and spiritual richness of the site from the founding of the Carthusian order in 1084 until today; it ends with a convivial tea.
guided tour of the estate: during a walk of approximately 1h30, you will discover the exceptional natural environment of the Avallon estate, its culture and its history, from the Carthusian fathers to the present day. an overview of the different activities of the place will also be offered.
Discovery weekend: discovering in the space of a weekend the basics of mindfulness meditation means discovering a new way of living the present, better understanding our functioning and how to live our emotions well. These weekends can also be a reminder for those who have already received meditation instructions or practiced.
Discovery day: take the time for a day to initiate yourself to full presence (mindfulness), discover the eco-site of Avallon, its cultural and historical richness, its activities. You will share lunch with us, the first 20 minutes of which take place in silence.
The retreat continues:
It allows everyone to come and meditate at any time of the year. 365 days a year, join the program for 1 hour, a day, a week or more. To fully taste the experience of full presence, it is advisable to follow the continuous retreat for at least 1 week.
