About
In the heart of the Chartreuse Regional Natural Park, nestled in the Abymes vineyard, between Lake Saint-André and Mont-Granier, the Moulin de la Tourne, a reconstruction of a paper mill, perpetuates the artisanal production of paper cloth.
A jewel of cultural heritage and a conservatory of the old paper and printing trades, you can visit the Moulin à papier de la Tourne and see the formation before your eyes of real "rag" paper, made to shape, sheet by sheet hand, as in the time of our ancestors.
Discovery of the operation of a traditional water mill with "camshaft" and mallet batteries; the history of paper, from its origins until its arrival in Savoy; of the different stages of its artisanal manufacture but also of the evolution of engraving techniques and printing presses. 500 years of History, the Memory of Paper but also and above all: the safeguarding of an endangered know-how, because the Moulin de la Tourne, in addition to being a Museum open to the public, is above all a workshop where the production of "by the vat" paper from flax, hemp or cotton remains the site's primary activity.
An exceptional educational interest for your children and students of all age groups. An unforgettable visit for groups and families.
For amateur or professional artists, "clubs" of calligraphers, associations of watercolourists, "budding" or experienced engravers or simply for the curious and passionate about arts and crafts, discover our internship program now: Initiation to the manufacture of artisanal paper, bookbinding or even "marbling"... And yes, the Moulin de la Tourne also offers workshops!
